What is attitude? I would define it as a reaction to circumstances whether good or bad. A person’s attitude however, stems from his mind: his belief, his mental frame and his values. All these come together to give a person a disposition to act in certain ways when faced with circumstances day by day.
Attitude is not inherited. When people realise that they react in certain ways at certain circumstances, they conclude “me too that is how I am.”
Nobody came into this world with any attitude. We picked them up as we were growing.
Acts 4:13 KJVS
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
After spending time with Jesus, their attitude towards circumstances changed. They picked up new attitudes and dispositions opposite to what they actually were.
People these days hold on to what they think they are instead of allowing themselves to be influenced by Jesus. The scripture says to be transformed by the renewing of the mind (Rom 12:2). The word of God is the avenue God uses to Influence our attitudes. People have said that attitude determines altitude.
Next time you sit behind the scriptures or at the preaching and teaching of the word, do not harden your heart by holding on to who you think you are. Allow Him (the word) to Influence you.
