We do hear certain phrases in our day to day dealings with people. Phrases such as “Let us face reality” or “Lets be real”. If we understand life, we will know that proper definition of things come from the author and giver of life. Only God can properly define what reality is for us all.
Whenever we use such phrases, we have something at the back of our minds. We doubt the truthfulness of what the other party in the conversation said. In our minds, what was said is not completely true. It is not real.
Jesus in one of his prayers said this in John 17:17; Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Now, the Greek word translated in English as truth is ‘Aletheia’. This word means reality, truth. Jesus defined what truth or reality is for us. Truth or Reality is the word of God.
So now my question: When you say “lets be real”, or “lets face reality”, what do you really mean?
I’m sure you are beginning to realize how many of us have been led to believe in the wrong things. Many of us have limited reality to the happenings around us which our senses can perceive. One says i am healed, the other says “really, lets be real, you are not”. Well, What does the word of God say? That is the decider.
The scenario below happened a long time ago. Scripture records it for our learning.
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
What God knew about Gideon and what he though was his reality didn’t match. If Gideon lived in our day, He would have said something like this: “c’mmon Angel of the lord, lets be real here….”. Because he couldn’t believe in God’s reality for him, it didn’t happen. He couldn’t smite the Medianites as one man. He did it with 300 more soldiers. That is how we miss out on great miracles. Later in life, David’s mighty men showed that God’s reality was indeed possible.
These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.
And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:
He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.
Sampson also proved that one man can defeat a whole army. Gideon missed out on something greater.
So brethren, “Lets be real” should mean lets consider the word of God. “Lets face reality” should mean lets find out what God knows about my situation
